Three recipients received the Marguerite B. Young Excellence in Education Awards (“MBY Awards”). The MBY Awards honor Marguerite Bailey Young’s decades of leadership in the City of Fredericksburg and commemorate with gratitude the unique and major impact she has had in advancing the Fredericksburg Branch NAACP. The recipients of these cash awards are selected annually from Fredericksburg City Public School employees.

Continued financial assistance in support of Mental Health America of Fredericksburg in implementing a mental health pilot project at Walker Grant Intermediate School. The objective is to increase the number of licensed mental health providers representing underserved communities and to provide school-based therapy to kids at risk of suicide.
Provided financial assistance to the University of Mary Washington NAACP College Chapter enabling Chapter members to participate in State and National NAACP events.
Focused on Membership growth (60 New Members) by engaging in community events, implementing phone retention calls, and conducting Special Meetings that informed new and existing members of valuable Branch information. Attended the National Convention in Las Vegas, NV, and received the Ella Jo Baker Award (1st Place) for membership growth.
Collaborated with community and city officials on petroleum pipeline safety awareness, permanently removing CSX hazardous material tanker cars from the Mayfield Community, and teen violence. Made public comments at city council meetings on issues of concern.

Worked with City Officials and others to improve housing conditions in the Mayfield Community.
